The media artist Daniel Caleb Thompson was born in 1976 in Waukesha, Wisconsin (USA). In 2000 he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus on Oil Painting at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, and in the same year he moved to Weimar. There, he studied Fine Art at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. In 2004 he finished his studies with the qualifying degree "Diplom Künstler". After his studies he worked in 2004 and 2005 as Designer and exhibition architect for the Kunstfest Weimar. In 2005 he co-founded the KulturForschungsZentrum and joined the team of Galerie Eigenheim in 2006. In the following years he focussed on curating solo and group shows at Galerie Eigenheim, while still finding time to show his own positions. In 2007 he founded the “Eigenheim Journal of Culture”, which he managed as publisher, author and designer until 2009. From 2008 until 2009 he took on the role of artistic director of the gallery.

In 2009 he co-curated the “Bauhaus Lab” for the City of Weimar in the context of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus. From 2010 to 2011 he was the director of the Künstlerhauses Weimar and worked as teaching associate for Prof. Dr. Olaf Weber at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar / Department of Aesthetics. In 2012 he joined the curatorium of the gallery spaces at the Gängeviertel in Hamburg.
